MLI’s Multicultural Series for Behavioral Health Prevention Professionals

Content: This workshop provides 6 hours of training for those working in prevention settings in behavioral and/or mental health. DMHAS' SPF-SIG/BP/ and PFS Grantees are encouraged to attend!

Who should attend: Those involved in prevention program planning, implementation, and evaluation who are seeking an introduction and understanding about working with Spanish-speaking individuals, families and community members are encouraged to attend.

Participants are encouraged to be receptive and engage in critical thinking of how to apply an understanding of historical, social, economic and political movements, from past to present, and to apply cultural dimensions to their unique prevention strategies.

Methods: This training will deliver culturally specific information through lecture, dialogue and interactive activities.

 

·       To present current demographic information to gain an appreciation of the diversity of Spanish-speaking groups

·       To illustrate and differentiate family values, roles, and characteristics of some Spanish-speaking groups

·       To impart knowledge within social, political, economic and historical contexts

·       To facilitate dialogue on how to incorporate this information in the development of culturally competent prevention programming

 

Methods: Presentation & Dialogue, Audio visuals, Interactive activities & Hands-on exercises.

 

Class size: This interactive training is limited to 30 participants. Registration open until filled or 1 week prior to event (whichever occurs first).

 

NOTES:

  • Please be sure to include a correct e-mail and mailing address for each registrant, as you may receive communications prior to this event.
  • Attendees are encouraged to attend the other series trainings, regarding specific populations and related topics.
  • Lunch (optional) can be pre-purchased through this site for $7.00 or you may bring your own lunch. A wonderful multicultural luncheon will be served! Lunch is from 12pm-1pm.

  • This event is Free  under a grant from the Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS) 

 

Refunds for the luncheon will not be made past 5 days before event. Refunds prior to this date will be subject  just to a $1.00 fee.


Tickets are non transferrable. There may be a waiting list for this event and we ask only those that can committ to attending will register for the event. In the case that you need to cancel your registration, we ask that you notify us so that we may offer the seating to those next on the list. Thank you.
